Vitamix A3500

I've owned three Vitamix models over the past decade and the A3500 is the most refined. The touchscreen and programs make it genuinely hands-free — press 'Smoothie' and walk away. The self-detect containers are clever; it adjusts blending times automatically. Self-cleaning with a drop of soap and warm water means I actually use it daily instead of dreading cleanup. It's still a jet engine at max speed, but the results are worth it. My green smoothies are silkier than any blender I've tried.

I love the smoothie quality but the noise has fundamentally changed when and how I can use this blender. I have a baby and a small apartment. Running this at 6:30am before work wakes the entire household. I've resorted to blending only during the day when the baby is out. For $600, I expected some engineering innovation on noise reduction. If you live alone or have a large house, it's probably fine. In a small space with light sleepers, it's a serious lifestyle constraint.

Frozen dessert program makes ice cream that rivals my Cuisinart ice cream maker. Smoothies are obviously perfect. The 10-year warranty sealed the deal — amortized over a decade, that's $55/year for a restaurant-grade tool. Best kitchen purchase I've ever made.
