Quip Smart Electric Toothbrush

I bought into the Quip marketing and aesthetic. The copper handle is genuinely gorgeous sitting on my bathroom counter. But after 6 months, I'm forced to admit: this doesn't clean well. Coming from a mid-range Sonicare, the Quip feels like holding a slightly vibrating stick. My teeth don't have that 'just left the dentist' feeling. My dental hygienist noticed more plaque buildup at my last visit. It's a lifestyle product, not a dental product. Going back to Sonicare.

I've found the perfect use case for Quip: travel toothbrush. I use a Sonicare at home and the Quip exclusively for trips. It's tiny, the cover protects the head, and it looks great. As a daily driver, it's not powerful enough. But for 2-5 day trips where you don't want to lug a full-size electric toothbrush and charger, it's ideal. The AAA battery means no charger needed. I wish they marketed it this way instead of as a primary toothbrush replacement.

As someone who's never owned an electric toothbrush, the Quip was a gentle introduction. The 2-minute timer with 30-second quadrant buzzes fixed my terrible habit of brushing for only 45 seconds. The vibrations are gentle enough that they didn't overwhelm me. But here's the thing: I tried my friend's mid-range Oral-B last week and the difference was night and day. The Oral-B felt like a power tool; the Quip feels like a gentle massage. The Quip got me started but I'll upgrade within the year.
