The ultimate adventure watch for iPhone users

Pros

  • +Battery easily lasts 2 days
  • +GPS accuracy is best-in-class
  • +Titanium case has zero scratches after 6 months

Cons

  • -Heavy for sleeping
  • -Action button accidentally triggers in tight sleeves

I've worn this on 50+ trail runs, two multi-day hikes, and daily for 6 months. The GPS tracking is noticeably more accurate than my Series 7 was — no more phantom zigzags on trail maps. Battery life is genuinely 36 hours with GPS workouts included. The titanium case still looks brand new despite bumping it on rocks and door frames. My only complaint is it's heavy enough that I sometimes take it off to sleep. For outdoor athletes on iPhone, this is the best wearable money can buy.

Overkill if you're not an athlete

Pros

  • +Beautiful screen
  • +Battery lasts longer than regular Apple Watch

Cons

  • -Way too big for my wrist
  • -Paying for features I never use
  • -Looks ridiculous with dress shirts

I got seduced by the marketing and bought this as my first Apple Watch. Honestly, the Series 9 would have been the smarter purchase. The watch is enormous on my 160mm wrist and looks absurd with business casual clothing. I never dive, rarely hike, and don't need dual-frequency GPS for my morning jog. The screen is gorgeous and battery is better than the regular model, but that's not worth the $400 premium for my use case.

Replaced my Garmin — no regrets

Pros

  • +Smartphone features blow Garmin away
  • +Health tracking is comprehensive
  • +Display is stunning

Cons

  • -Battery life still shorter than Garmin
  • -No physical buttons for workouts like Garmin

I switched from a Garmin Fenix 7X and the Ultra 2 does about 90% of what the Garmin does for fitness while being 10x better as a smartwatch. Notifications, Apple Pay, phone calls on wrist — the Garmin can't touch any of that. Yes, battery life is shorter (2 days vs 2 weeks), but I charge it while showering and it's never died on me. For someone who wants one watch for everything, the Ultra 2 is it.
