Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Honeycomb Shell Hygiene

63 mentions

The perforated honeycomb design, while reducing weight, inevitably collects dust, food particles, and skin debris. Cleaning requires compressed air regularly and a brush to remove trapped particles.

Side Button Wobble

41 mentions

The two forward side buttons have slight lateral play that is perceptible when pressing them. While they function correctly, the wobble feels cheap compared to the main buttons.

SteelSeries GG Software

33 mentions

The SteelSeries GG companion app is functional but considered less polished than Logitech G Hub. Profile syncing occasionally fails and the UI feels dated.

Best value gaming mouse — competes with mice costing $50 more

Verified
By Emma T.Owned 7 monthsintermediate user2025-11-03

Pros

  • +Nine buttons is perfect for my FFXIV binds
  • +180 hours battery means I charge it monthly
  • +IP54 means I don't panic if I spill nearby

Cons

  • -Honeycomb design collects dust fast
  • -Side button wobble is noticeable

I play Final Fantasy XIV and having nine bindings on my mouse is essential for my build. The Aerox 5 hits every mark — enough buttons, wireless without the weight, and battery life so long I forget to charge it. The TrueMove Air sensor is perfectly accurate for MMO use where precise pixel-perfect aiming isn't required. The honeycomb design does collect dust and I clean it weekly with compressed air. Overall this is the best mouse at this price point for any game that benefits from multiple programmable buttons.

Great for Warzone, sensor isn't as good as competition claims

Pros

  • +Light enough to compete with much pricier options
  • +Extra buttons useful for pinging and call-outs
  • +Value for money is hard to beat

Cons

  • -TrueMove Air has slight smoothing that bothers me
  • -Side button wobble is concerning for durability

I play Warzone at a high competitive level and chose this for the weight and button count. The TrueMove Air sensor performs well but in sensor testing I detected a small amount of smoothing at high speeds that the HERO 2 and Focus Pro 30K don't exhibit. For casual and mid-level competitive play it's imperceptible and doesn't matter. For high-level competitive FPS, it's a minor but real difference. The side button wobble worries me for long-term durability — it already feels looser than when I first opened it. Good mouse for the price, not best-in-class performance.

Survived a full water spill — IP54 actually works

Declared
By Fiona L.Owned 5 monthsintermediate user2025-12-17

Pros

  • +IP54 rating saved my mouse from a full glass of water
  • +Lightweight and comfortable for all-day use
  • +Nine buttons is handy for browser shortcuts too

Cons

  • -GG software could be more intuitive
  • -Honeycomb is a nightmare to clean thoroughly

Last month I knocked a full glass of water directly onto my desk and it flooded my mouse completely. I picked it up, shook it out, dried it for 10 minutes, and it worked perfectly. The IP54 rating is not just marketing — it genuinely works. The honeycomb holes let the water drain quickly and the internals were completely protected. For someone as clumsy as me, this is essential. The mouse itself performs well for my gaming and I'm happy with the purchase. The cleaning challenge with the holes is real but manageable with a can of compressed air.
