Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Light Mopping Pressure

41 mentions

The mopping system uses passive pad dampening rather than active scrubbing. Most reviewers agree it works well for light maintenance but won't tackle dried spills or grease.

Subscription Paywall

33 mentions

Several advanced features including smart home integration and advanced scheduling require an iRobot Genius subscription ($9.99/mo), which many buyers feel should be included at this price.

Weak Deep-Carpet Suction

56 mentions

At $1000+, the suction power lags significantly behind Roborock and Ecovacs competitors. Expert reviewers consistently flag this as the Combo j9+'s biggest weakness.

The retractable mop is everything they promised

Pros

  • +Mop lifts perfectly on every carpet transition
  • +Obstacle avoidance is class-leading
  • +Clean Base truly hands-free

Cons

  • -Mopping strength is light
  • -Subscription fees add up

I've been burned before by robot mops that leave wet streaks on my area rugs. The j9+ is the first one that completely solves this problem. Every single carpet transition, the pad lifts perfectly. I have six different rugs and it's flawless every time. The cleaning is solid — not the most powerful vacuum at this price — but combined with the mopping and the truly hands-free base, it earns its price for me. I just wish the subscription wasn't required for some features.

Good concept, but suction is a real disappointment at $1000

Pros

  • +Mop-carpet separation works well
  • +Reliable obstacle detection
  • +Nice app UI

Cons

  • -Suction power is mediocre for the price
  • -Mopping leaves streaks on dark floors
  • -Bags expensive

I own five robot vacuums and have tested dozens. The j9+ has genuinely clever engineering — the mop retraction works great, obstacle avoidance is top tier. But for over $1000, the suction power is embarrassingly weak compared to similarly priced Roborock or Dreame models. My old Roborock S5 Max at $300 cleaned carpets better. If obstacle avoidance and mop-carpet separation are your top priorities, this works. If you want powerful suction, look elsewhere.

Perfect for our home with three dogs

Verified
By Tom & Lisa A.Owned 6 monthsbeginner user2026-02-01

Pros

  • +Never stepped on a dog mess in 6 months
  • +Easy daily scheduling
  • +Mop works great on kitchen tile

Cons

  • -Price is high
  • -Need to replace mop pad frequently

With three dogs, the P.O.O.P. guarantee isn't a marketing gimmick — it's why I bought this. Six months in and it has correctly avoided every single accident. That peace of mind is priceless. The mop keeps our kitchen and bathroom tile consistently clean without any effort. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, the bags cost more than I'd like. But for a household like ours, it's worth every penny.
