Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

No ProMotion 120Hz Display

66 mentions

The 60Hz LCD display feels noticeably less smooth compared to iPad Pro, especially when scrolling or drawing with Apple Pencil. Many users expect 90Hz or 120Hz at the $600+ price point.

Limited Base Storage

41 mentions

The base 128GB model fills up quickly for users who store video or large design files. The jump to 256GB adds $100, which some consider excessive.

Not a Big Upgrade from M2

28 mentions

Existing M2 iPad Air owners report little reason to upgrade. The M3 chip offers modest real-world speed improvements and no new display or design features.

Perfect for medical school — notes, diagrams, and study all in one

Pros

  • +Apple Pencil Pro is exceptional for anatomy diagrams
  • +Battery lasts all day in school
  • +Light enough to carry everywhere

Cons

  • -128GB base fills up fast with lecture recordings
  • -No 120Hz feels outdated for the price

I started med school with a paper notebook and a MacBook. A classmate showed me her iPad Air setup and I switched immediately. The Apple Pencil Pro on GoodNotes is the best study tool I've ever used — I can annotate PDFs, draw anatomy diagrams, and organize everything better than any paper system. The battery genuinely lasts my full day of classes and labs. I got the 256GB model and it's nearly full after 8 months. The 60Hz display doesn't bother me, but I'd spring for the Pro if you do a lot of drawing — the ProMotion is noticeably smoother.

Great tablet, but the 60Hz is harder to ignore than I expected

Pros

  • +Performance is genuinely impressive — M3 is fast
  • +Apple Pencil Pro support is great value here
  • +Display colors and brightness are excellent for LCD

Cons

  • -60Hz scrolling feels sluggish once you've used 120Hz
  • -Hoping Apple upgrades to OLED in next generation

I came from an iPad Pro M1 with ProMotion and the step down to 60Hz was more jarring than I anticipated. Scrolling through long documents and especially drawing with Apple Pencil feels slightly laggy by comparison — not truly laggy, but the smoothness gap is perceptible. Everything else about this tablet is excellent. The M3 chip is fast for everything I throw at it. The display brightness and color accuracy are very good for an LCD. If you've never had 120Hz, you won't miss it. If you're coming from ProMotion, you will.

Replaced my laptop for 90% of my work — incredible value

Pros

  • +Does everything I need at a much lower price than Pro
  • +Apple Pencil for sketching is a joy to use
  • +App quality on iPad is amazing

Cons

  • -Would love more storage options on the base model
  • -Case and keyboard add up cost-wise

I am a small business owner who does graphic design for my Etsy shop. I was going to buy a MacBook but chose the iPad Air M3 instead and I don't regret it at all. Procreate and Adobe Fresco run perfectly and I can sketch product designs anywhere — coffee shops, on the couch, on flights. The M3 chip handles large Procreate canvases without breaking a sweat. I save money and time by having one device that goes with me everywhere. For creative work that doesn't require complex desktop software, this is the best value in Apple's lineup.
