Recurring Issues

Common problems reported by multiple verified buyers

Short Battery Life vs Competitors

72 mentions

At 6 hours with ANC on, the QC Ultra Earbuds have significantly shorter battery than Sony XM5 (8 hours) and Apple AirPods Pro 2 (6 hours with ANC). Heavy users frequently cite this as the biggest disappointment for the premium price.

Immersive Audio Source Dependence

41 mentions

The spatial Immersive Audio feature works best with content processed through the Bose app or compatible apps. Standard stereo Spotify or Apple Music streams don't benefit equally, which creates inconsistent expectations.

Case Size

29 mentions

The carrying case is larger than Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 and Sony XM5 cases. Multiple reviewers note it takes up more pocket or bag space than they expected.

Best ANC earbuds I've ever owned — and I've owned them all

Verified
By Victor P.Owned 5 monthsexpert user2025-09-10

Pros

  • +ANC is the best I've tested — period
  • +CustomTune calibration is noticeably effective
  • +Immersive Audio genuinely impressive

Cons

  • -Battery too short for long-haul flights
  • -Case is bulky

I've owned the Sony XM5, AirPods Pro 2, and multiple Jabra models. The Bose QC Ultra Earbuds have the best ANC I've experienced on any earbud. On my 10-hour flight, the cabin noise essentially disappeared. CustomTune is not gimmicky — I can hear a genuine difference when I swap tips and the calibration re-runs. Immersive Audio is the most convincing spatial audio I've heard on earbuds. The only real issue: the battery died at hour 6 on that long flight. At this price, 8 hours should be the minimum.

Almost perfect — the battery is the dealbreaker

Pros

  • +ANC beats Sony XM5 in my office
  • +Comfortable all day
  • +Sound quality is excellent

Cons

  • -6 hour battery limits full-day use without case access
  • -App uses considerable phone battery

For commuting and office use, these are nearly perfect. The ANC in my open-plan office is remarkable — I can genuinely focus when wearing them. I wear them about 8 hours a day total, which means I need to charge mid-afternoon. With the Sony XM5 I could go all day. The sound quality with Immersive Audio is genuinely the best I've heard from earbuds. If Bose could get to 8+ hours, I'd never buy another brand. Until then, I keep the case on my desk.

Switched from Sony XM5 and don't regret it

Verified

Pros

  • +Fit is more comfortable than Sony for my ears
  • +ANC at least as good
  • +CustomTune is clever and works

Cons

  • -Battery shorter — adjustment required
  • -More expensive than Sony

The Sony XM5 fit never worked for me — they kept sliding out. The Bose tips and ear design works perfectly for my ear shape and I can wear them for hours without discomfort. ANC is at least equal to Sony in my experience, arguably better on planes. The 2-hour battery gap isn't ideal but manageable. For me, the fit difference alone justifies the switch. If Sony fit you perfectly, there's no strong reason to switch unless Immersive Audio appeals to you.
