Surface Laptop 6

I type 8+ hours a day as a content writer and the Surface Laptop 6 keyboard is exceptional — better than my old ThinkPad X1 Carbon, which I thought was unbeatable. The Copilot features for summarizing long meeting transcripts in Teams have saved me hours every week. Battery life gets me through a full work day without hunting for outlets. The only real frustration is port selection — I need a hub for everything. But as a writing and productivity machine, this is the best Windows laptop I've owned.

Microsoft makes beautiful hardware and the Surface Laptop 6 is no exception. But the port situation in 2025 is embarrassing — two USB-C ports on a $1,200 laptop. I needed three ports for my setup immediately and spent another $80 on a hub. The soldered RAM and SSD mean this machine is disposable when it hits its limits. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon offers better repairability for the same price. Apple offers better performance. Microsoft charges premium pricing for a device with these limitations.

We deployed Surface Laptop 6 units across 40 employees and the IT experience has been smooth. Microsoft Intune provisioning is faster than any other laptop we've deployed. The Copilot features in Teams meetings — automatic transcript summaries, action item extraction — have measurably reduced our meeting overhead. Battery life means fewer complaints about dead laptops in meetings. The port limitation required us to buy Surface Docks for every desk, which added cost. But as an integrated Microsoft ecosystem deployment, nothing comes close.
